Master of Ceremony

EURORDIS would like to express a heartfelt thanks to Marlène de Wouters d’Oplinter who immediately and generously accepted, for the fifth time, to be the Master of Ceremony for the EURORDIS Black Pearl Evening.

Marlène de Wouters d’Oplinter was born in Amsterdam in 1966 and has Belgian nationality. She began her career as a tennis player and won numerous national and international titles. For four years she travelled the world and participated in several WTA tournaments. She was the first Belgian tennis player to earn a WTA ranking (highest ranking 208). Because of her graceful appearance on the courts, she was known as the “Tennis Ballerina”.

Marlène moved into television shortly after her tennis career ended. For the past 20 years, Marlène has presented many different talk shows and current affairs programmes in Flanders dealing with social issues such as euthanasia and medical errors. She has been awarded 5 times Best Presenter and Best Talk Show Host for her work.

She participated in the Belgian version of Dancing with the stars and proved herself to be a sensual dancer. In 2009 she was elected ‘Most beautiful, sensual and reliable woman’ of the year.

In addition to her television work, Marlène is the presenter of the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition (Concours Reine Elisabeth), considered the world over to be one of the most prestigious and most difficult.
